The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
