Parachuting Instructor Dies Following Plummeting Without Parachute in Music City

Emergency Situation Rescue Operation
Local Fire Department said it used multiple ladders and a rescue mechanism to save the client

The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the death of a parachuting trainer after he got detached from his student during a dive in Nashville, Tennessee.

Authorities say instructor Justin Fuller "is presumed to have dropped from the sky without a safety chute" during the dive on Saturday.

Fuller, 35, appeared to have separated from his client and a tandem rig, which connects the pair during a jump and includes the safety gear.

A police helicopter found the instructor's remains in a wooded area some time after. Local emergency crews utilized multiple pieces of equipment to access the middle-aged client who lived through the descent after being stuck on a tree for hours with the backup chute.

Officials said three other dives, which occurred near a local airport, were carried out without incident prior to the fatal fall. The plane from which they leaped also landed safely.

The cause remains unknown how Mr Fuller, an seasoned parachutist, got detached from the safety equipment.

A individual who helped rescue teams in the operation informed a local television station the student who officials rescued said "it was his first jump, and it was going to be his last".

Mr Fuller had recently written about his passion for teaching others how to skydive.

"Instructing individuals to skydive has consistently been in my view the most satisfying role at the jump site," Mr Fuller said in an social media update in June.

"Watching them learn the skills and start flying their bodies is always a heartwarming experience. Occasionally though, it can get a little hectic up there when you let someone go for their initial attempt."

During that period he posted images of the wreckage a skydiving plane he was on saying the plane's engine had failed after departure. Every individual aboard lived through the incident.
