Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
